Hybla Valley Elementary School
Additions and Renovations
The original single-story classroom building was constructed in 1964 with subsequent renovations and major additions occurring over the lifespan of the building including a one-story classroom, music room, and gymnasium addition, a one-story library addition, a two-story classroom addition, and a cafeteria addition.
With new curriculum requirements, many of the existing education spaces were significantly undersized and did not meet minimum program standards or desired adjacencies.
To address capacity issues and programmatic inadequacies,
Maginniss + del Ninno Architects developed a plan for a phased building modernization and additions to the school on the existing constrained site. The design team was tasked with maximizing playfields while expanding parking on-site in addition to providing additional education spaces and a new secured entry.
